Learning from many people in the industry none was more influential in her life than her mentor the late Ralph Cooper Sr. - The founder of “Amateur Night at The Apollo” She studied closely and learned the crucial steps for producing, marketing and coordinating shows. One of Egypt's functions at the Apollo Theater was hiring stylist to help design the hair for the Apollo Models. A few years later she produced a successful High School Jam at the Stardust Ballroorn, under the supervision of Alonzo Brown who executive produced the “Judge Mathes TV Show and was a member of the pioneering hip hop group “Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde,” along with Andre Harrell. This is when the promotion seeds were planted and began to blossom. She made many celebrity contacts and friends during this period one of which was her friend Gerard Dure - An up and coming celebrity stylist who wanted to open his own salon and asked Egypt to bring her experience and eye for style along to help launch and manage it. During this time she also met a young gentleman who would be a major part of her life by the name of Kenyatta Lawson who she later married and they have happily been together now for over 25 years.

Working with Gerard Dure Salon is where she mastered the art of hair alternatives in the early to mid 90's. While managing celebrity stylists, Egypt was known as a problem solver and innovator of ideas for hair alternative and scalp problems. Egypt promoted the salon and under her management many of the celebrity stylish were featured in major magazines for working with such artist as Toni Braxton, Carmen Electra and Tyra Banks. Many of Egypt's hair creations were also featured. Egypt frequently visited Mrs. WyChe'S at W.A.j, a hair, and wig and toupee factory located on 125" Street next to the Miracles of Reverend James. This is where she learned trade secrets about the hair and wig industry. Egypt began making custom hair alternative pieces for clients suffering from Alopecia and Pattern Baldness, which was named Co-op Weaving - A technique she taught stylist that used multiple weaving methods for a more realistic look. She also created the first lace frontal during this time. There were only toupees and theatrical wigs available on the market. She extended the sides of a toupee so the lace frontal can fit across the full hairline of the customer. This became a hot item for weave wearer's with thinning edges.

The origin of Hairline Illusions comes from a client of hers who was diagnosed with Cancer and wanted to cut and use her own hair to create a wig.
